The Manneken Pis is a small bronze statue about 60 cm tall, and a symbol of Brussels humor. It stands a few minutes from the Grand-Place, at the corner of Rue de l’Etuve and Rue du Chene. The statue you see today is a copy: the original is kept in the City of Brussels Museum, in the Maison du Roi on the Grand-Place.

Our top pick: Brussels: Guided Walking Tour

Getting there from the Progress Hotel

From Brussels-North station it is about 2.5 km. You can walk through the center, or take the metro or tram to Bourse or De Brouckere, then finish on foot.

The costumes

The Manneken Pis owns a wardrobe of several hundred costumes given by countries, cities and associations. He is dressed on certain dates, with the calendar published by the City of Brussels. Most of the costumes are displayed in a dedicated museum nearby.

Go early in the morning: during the day a crowd gathers around the railing. The visit takes under a quarter of an hour, so combine it with the Grand-Place.

What to see nearby

Close by are the Grand-Place, the Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert and several waffle and chocolate shops. To understand the history of the statue and the district, a guided walking tour is a good option.
